0 Mafia 2

The original Mafia: City Of Lost Heaven may have either passed you by on the PS2 (because it was an absolute disaster of a port), or it would have stunned you with the Pc original. Boasting a gritty plot of a taxi driver gone Mafia Hitman, it was a brilliant take on the sandbox genre, even if the Thirties cars never matched the speed of or impact of those in the GTA series. In many ways, it was a much deeper experience than the GTA III. The third person shooting was far above the distressing auto-aim pissery of the PS2 GTA games, while the graphics were far better than anything that the home consoles could offer at that time.

Mafia 2 looks to do the same, and hopefully this PS3 sequel will hit a litter harder than the first one. Set in the late Forties, Mafia 2 is being built with consoles in mind, with an all new storyline and possibly a new location to boot. To many, this will look like sub GTA free roaming, but this opinion is likely to be suppressed as we find out more in the coming months. Based on the first trailer, the cut scenes in Mafia 2 are also looking very sharp, with some great tricks and details on the facial animation adding a Heavenly Sword level of cinematic polish to the narrative. We hope the cars aren’t as pompously annoying in the sequel; capture an era, by all means, but if we have to drive another one of those ancient taxis ever again, we will put a hit out on ourselves.
